Why Matrix? Why not XMPP or any other messaging system?[edit | edit source]
DGF needed to figure out Pub/Sub problems. XMPP uses pretty traditional Pub/Sub architecture, and the GossipSub protocol developed by Protocol Labs was what we wanted to work with. We did not perform a comprehensive study, but realized that both Filecoin, Ethereum, and Matrix were already using it.
